Benedict XVI characterized the South Caucasus as a region, where people of different faiths coexist peacefully.
“Religious leaders of the South Caucasus are still facing with the difficult problems”, said Pope Benedict XVI in his weekly message following the meeting with the catholic religious figures of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, who are on a five-day visit to Vatican. Azerbaijan is represented by the head of Catholic Church Jan Chapla.

The Pope said there were significant social changes in the region after the USSR collapse. “However the difficulties still remain. There are many poor people in the region, unemployment and refugee problems have not been solved yet”.
Benedict XVI characterized the South Caucasus as a region, where people of different faiths coexist peacefully. He positively appreciated the high level of religious tolerance in Azerbaijan.
